August 2023

Hi there! Welcome to my blog

I’m Hayley and I like to make cool warm things!

I make crochet blanket patterns on hookedwithhayley.com, have a crochet course and sell blankets locally. I’m a mum of 5 (4 boys and 1 girl) and have been crocheting and knitting for years.

I’m going to break my blog up into 3 sections; Works in Progress (WIPs), Finished Items and New Things.

Let me start off by saying, I know, I’m definitely cutting it fine for an August Blog, but honestly it’s been a crazy busy month

Without further ado, here’s my latest WIPs..

WIPS

So, a couple of months ago, I shared a WIP I was working on, a granny jumper. It’s been in the ‘forgotten  WIPs’ pile since then if I’m being totally honest. I decided after my super week last week, I’d take a break from creating for other people and work on something for myself. Of course, instead of actually finishing something I’d already started I decided I needed another WIP. I found a lovely Granny square pattern and decided to give that a go. Using the yarn I was supposed to be using to finish the granny jumper.

Eye roll. Anyhoo, I decided to turn that into the back of a cardigan so I’m currently working on a cardigan and will be frogging the original jumper to finish the cardigan!

My second WIP is a duck amigurumi. I was travelling for a course last week, so needed something relatively small and easy to work on whilst I was away so decided writing a pattern for a duck would be a great idea! Hopefully I’ll be able to get some work done on it and be able to share photos of it soon.

Finished Items

My first finished item is something I’m insanely proud of. It’s taken over 4 years to share this and finally I have! My son was absolutely obsessed with Paw Patrol when he was younger and I was horrified by the price of the toys (and they were tiny too!). That was what got me into selling my crochet in the first place. People saw my Paw Patrol Pups and wanted one for their kids.

I’ve always had this story around the pattern that it would be too complicated to explain so have never shared the pattern

After creating the Ultimate C2C crochet course and of course forcing myself out of my comfort zone with making videos, it was finally time to share this pattern

And here it is! The Chase Paw Patrol Amigurumi. It’s taken around 5 weeks to get everything recorded and edited (mostly because I’ve been trying to work in the School Holidays).

My second finished item, which ties into the Chase pattern, is the Beginners Crochet Course. I created it as a bonus for the Chase Pattern so anyone could make it whether they were new to crochet or not. But I’ve decided that I need to share it with everyone so I’ve added that to the website too.

My last 2 finished items were inspired by the Banana Duck I made a while ago. I made the Banana Duck after buying a random ornament for my garden. Again, it was small and quite expensive (considering it’s size). ‘I could make that’ I said to myself (I say this too often) and a couple of balls of yarn later, I had a decent sized banana duck

I saw the latest random duck related ornament doing the rounds on social media (and you’d be surprised at how many people tagged me in it) - The Duck You. Again I said to myself ‘I could make that’, especially after seeing it would be just as small as the banana duck. And here he is! The Duck You. I’m working on getting a pattern typed up for him, so watch this space if you want to make your own

And that leaves the last random duck. Long story short there was a joke about ‘Big Duck Energy’ in one of my chat groups and you can imagine what I said to myself. A day later and he was made. There has been quite a lot of discussion with my husband about how he’s not very big. Not to be defeated I decided I would make a bigger version (using 6 strands of aran/worsted/ yarn group 4) and a 10mm hook. I’m maybe half way through and I've already used one massive ball of yarn (400g) so had to go get another one. Updates to follow (hopefully next month)

I have no updates on the YouTube channel, mostly because if the Summer Holidays and just not having the time

New Things

I’m on a yarn buying ban at the moment (self imposed) and although I did buy another ball of purple yarn for the massive duck I haven’t bought anything else. I’m working on some ideas to use up some of the yarn I have in my stash to make some space.

If you have any cool scrap yarn or stash buster projects I’d love some more ideas so let me know!

Happy Hooking and see you next month
