April 2013

Hi there! Welcome to my blog

I’m Hayley and I like to make cool warm things!

I make crochet blanket patterns on hookedwithhayley.com and sell blankets locally. I’m a mum of 5 (4 boys and 1 girl) and have been crocheting and knitting for years.

I’m going to break my blog up into 3 sections; Works in Progress (WIPs), Finished Items and New Things.

WIPs

I’m currently working on an Elvis portrait blanket. I’ve quite a few patterns that are on my to-do pile but my portrait blankets have been waiting for quite a while. I couldn’t think of anyone better to start with than Elvis though so he’s first!

The next WIP is a kind of work in progress and kind of finished item. I want to add more to these little pigs so they’re technically not finished. The next bit os a surprise so if you follow me on social media you’ll see the finished items there. If not, why not? I share lots of cool tips, new patterns, projects I’m working on and even new things I’ve bought!

Lastly for the WIPs I’m working on a corner to corner cardigan. I figured I’d start by making a plain one to gauge the size/ number of blocks I’d need before  moving on to making a pattern. I started making this on the flight to London and it seems to have ended up in the forgotten pile

Finished Items

So, last month I told you guys about an exciting project I had just finished to take down to London with me! And here it is!!! I made a portrait blanket for Mr Paul Mort. This could be a blog post all to itself to be honest so definitely look out for that in the future. I’m so grateful for what working with Paul has done for my family and couldn’t think of a better way to say thank you. I also made him a hat which I’m hoping to get a photo of him wearing in July when I’ll be going to his Massive Action Day

My next finished items are the hats that I’ve been promising my boys I’d make for them for quite a while. It’s a good job too as the weather here has turned and its getting colder again. I used my favourite hat pattern from Repeat Crafter Me and just free-handed the decorations. I’ll admit that I think the Mr Potato Head hat looks cooler, but the chicken hat took way longer.

My  last finished item is my latest pattern. I was asked to make this blanket for a birthday present and jumped at the chance to make another Stitch! I’m really pleased with how it turned out and it’s available on the website if you’d like to make your own!

New Things

When I went to London, I had one mission—find a yarn shop, buy some wool! So after visiting a few different places I managed to find a cool little craft shop in Camden and bought 2 skeins of yarn. They’re not my usual type of yarn (I usually buy cheap acrylic) and I’m being a bit precious about what to use them for, but finally attempted a headband from one of them yesterday. It needs to be a little wider so I’m planning to add a border around the edge, but it’s super warm and cosy and the yarn is really soft.

The other new thing I got was a Pokémon crochet book. I’m excited to start making the projects out the book but I’m not sure which one to start with. Which is your favourite Pokémon?

Well, that’s it for now and I’ll see you in a month for the Cool Warm Things!
