March 2023

Hi there! Welcome to my blog

I’m Hayley and I like to make cool warm things!

I make crochet blanket patterns on hookedwithhayley.com and sell blankets locally. I’m a mum of 5 (4 boys and 1 girl) and have been crocheting and knitting for years.

I’m going to break my blog up into 3 sections; Works in Progress (WIPs), Finished Items and New Things.

WIPs

I’m still working on the Fancy Bones cardigan and after many different attempts with different yarns I’ve settled on this and almost have the back finished! Once you get into crochet cables they are quite easy and you get into a rhythm. Now I’m wondering if I should attempt to modify it into a jumper or just follow the pattern and make a cardigan. What do you think? The yarn is King Cole Curiosity in the colour Mother of Pearl. This project has been an in between project and I haven’t been able to spend much time on it lately because I’ve been making lots of blankets that people ordered. I’m almost caught up now so hopefully will be able to spend more time on it again soon.

My only other WIP is a gift for someone that I’ve been working on for months, so can’t share details of that yet but hopefully will be able to soon!

Finished Items

My first finished item is this lovely blanket a friend asked me to make for her sister. Her dog passed away and she wanted a blanket of him, so I made this. Her favourite colour is green so I made sure to add that to the background. I’m really pleased with how it turned out and although she was a little emotional, she absolutely loved it!

I also managed to finish my cardigan. I basically just measured the width of a cardigan I have and made it to a length I thought was right, so one rectangle for the back, then 2 rectangles for the front pieces, added sleeves and a ribbed border around the whole thing.

The next finished items are my latest patterns. The first is a Stitch and Angel blanket. I made sure to do lots of ‘research’ and watched lots of the Stitch TV series so I was prepared before I started. (I’m just a big kid really).

I also managed to make a Peppa Pig blanket and a George Pig Blanket that you can buy separately or as a bundle. I love how these came out and especially Mr Dinosaur.

The next is a Grinch scarf that I was asked to make before Christmas but didn’t have time to squeeze in. Although it felt a bit weird making a Christmas project in March, I love how it turned out and can’t wait to make more scarves. I got my husband to model it for me so it was easier to see how the size of the scarf. He was a bit reluctant but we managed to get a few photos and he even agreed to wear a Hooked with Hayley T-shirt so big shout out to him for helping out!

I have 2 more finished items but I can’t share them yet, I’m going to London next week with my husband so he can attend his quarterly training with his coach Paul Mort and I’ve made a couple of things for Paul as a thank you. I will be sharing them soon! I’m so excited! I can’t wait!

I’m currently overthinking what project I can take with me that won’t take up too much space in my bag, but I’m not sure so if you have any suggestions I’d super appreciate it!

New Things

My first and probably most exciting new thing is my Hooked with Hayley T-shirts! I added another section to my shop in case any wants one so you can buy them there. I wear mine whenever I get the chance because I like how they fit (they’re super comfortable) and especially like wearing them to FitClub. I also have tote bags available which I think would be amazing for your WIPs

My other exciting new things are my Hooked with Hayley tags. I bought them off Etsy and the seller was really helpful, sent me a preview of what they’d look like and they arrived really quickly. They fit really nicely onto blankets even though they were made for hats (I’ve added one onto a hat too) and I think they just make everything look much better

The last new thing I’ve got is lots of this lovely soft yarn. I got this from Aldi and ended up buying (I think) 15 balls. I’m hoping to make a cardigan out if it for those cold winter days when you just feel like hibernating, which living in the North East of Scotland could be July. I’m going to make it in the same way that I made my other cardigan. What kind of stitch would you use?

That’s it for this time, I’ll be able to show my other finished items next time!
